Banking, reimagined for the self-employed.

We are building a new kind of financial institution. One designed for freelancers, consultants, and the self-employed.

Caledonia is in formation. We are not a bank yet, but we are clear about where we are headed: intelligent, adaptive, human-centred finance with a global outlook and a commitment to long-term sustainability.

Our Team

Professional Team Behind us

Christian Sutherland

Our co-founder, with decades of experience across industries as diverse as aviation and banking.

Bettina Aye

Nobody’s ever met Bettina, and we’re pretty sure she has no pulse, but she shows up at all hours, remembers everything, and gets stuff done faster than any of us.

David Sutherland

David sees risk coming before the rest of us do, and makes sure we don’t trip over our own ambition.

Madeleine Arama

Taming data chaos so the rest of us don’t have to.

Richard Sutherland

Our co-founder, with decades of experience across industries as diverse as aviation and banking.

Calum (Cal) Scott

Cal’s our Product Manager, but “manager” doesn’t quite cover it. He challenges assumptions, rewrites requirements, and quietly pushes everything one level higher.

Our Values

Not just words. These are our non-negotiables:

What We Are (and Are Not)

We are building something new, but we are not pretending it is already here.

We are

In formation, laying the foundations for a next-generation financial platform.

Focused on freelancers, the self-employed, and gig workers.

Transparent about our progress and our limitations.

We are not

A licensed bank — yet.

Offering accounts, cards, or taking deposits at this time.

Offering investment opportunities, returns, or financial products to the public.

Why Caledonia — and Why Now
The financial system was not designed for the self-employed.
We are changing that, with tools built for freelancers, consultants, and creators.
Adaptive banking. Future-ready security. A fairer way to reward participation.
We are in formation, but the vision is clear: financial services should be built for how people actually work today.
A Global Platform With a Green Mission

Our vision extends beyond borders and into the future of sustainable finance.

Caledonia is being built not only to serve people everywhere, but to do so responsibly. We believe financial platforms of the future must account for more than transactions. They must reflect the world they operate in. As we scale, we are exploring ways to integrate sustainability into every layer of our model: from incentivising physical movement and low-impact behaviours to supporting partners and technologies that align with environmental responsibility.

And yes, those who take part in our ecosystem can earn digital tokens; a small way of recognising positive actions. These can be used to unlock everyday benefits, or even passed forward to support sustainability initiatives. It is one of many ways we hope to align personal impact with shared responsibility.
