Banking should be built for the future, but always focused on people

Richard Sutherland is Co-Founder of Caledonia Financial Group and a key figure in shaping its vision for a new kind of bank. His leadership combines strategic foresight with practical delivery, focusing on secure, AI-enabled infrastructure and client-first innovation.

At Caledonia, Richard leads on architecture, regulatory readiness, and long-range planning. He works across teams and jurisdictions, guiding the company’s growth with a steady and deliberate approach. Fluent or conversational in five languages and deeply experienced in digital transformation, he brings both a global mindset and a strong commitment to clarity in financial services.

He has lived on four continents, travelled to 96 countries, and studied in a variety of international contexts. Exposure to different cultures and systems sparked a lifelong interest in how people connect, how technology shapes behaviour, and how design builds trust. These ideas continue to inform his work at Caledonia.

Richard has built his career around system architecture, programme leadership and digital change. Prior to co-founding Caledonia, he worked with private banks and financial institutions across Europe and North America, leading complex integrations and technology upgrades in high-stakes environments.

Today, he is focused on building Caledonia from the ground up. From AI-powered financial tools to quantum-resilient infrastructure, his work is aimed at creating a banking model that simplifies systems, strengthens trust, and meets the real needs of the people it serves.
